Hopewell
Herald – December 9, 2023
In Philemon v5, we see the difference that Christ has made for us in regard to the two great commandments.
To love YHWH our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength is to love the Lord Jesus. It is in Jesus that the triune, living God has made Himself known to us and given Himself to us. We love Father, Son, and Spirit especially in loving Jesus. To see and love Him is to see and love the Father (Jn 1:18, Jn 14:8–9).
And we now have neighbors who are united to Christ through faith. We love the rest of our neighbors as ourselves. But our brethren, the saints, we love as parts of Christ, members of Christ. We love them with a reciprocal love, as He has loved us (Jn 13:34).
There is one day that is the great feast of this love for Christ and for those who are in Christ—the Lord’s Day, with its assembly of the saints, is our great love feast.
Looking forward to delighting in Him together, as members of Him and of one another (Rom 12:5),
